Susceptibility of Pupae of Two Cocoon-forming Lepidopterous Species to the Entomogenous Nematode, Neoaplectana carpocapsae (Rhabditida: Steinernematidae).

چکیده
T h e intent would be to reduce or delay the nematode populat ion build-up until an acceptable yield was assured, as is usual with toxic nonfumigant nematicides. An added benefit of nematode control with amino acids is the human nutr i t ional value of any residual material. Furthermore, these findings clearly establish the feasibility of alternative chemotherapy as a practical, safe means of managing nematode pest populations for acceptable crop production. Movement of the entomogenous nematodes of the families heterorhabditidae and steinernematidae in soil.
The entomogenous nematode species Heterorhabditis heliothidis (Kahn, Brooks, and Hirschmann), H. bacteriophora Poinar, Neoaplectana carpocapsae Weiser, and N. glaseri Steiner are promising biological control agents for a broad range of soil-inhabiting insect species (6). Many factors in soil affect nematode survival, movement, and infectivity: Moisture is probably the most important physical fa...

Filbertworm, Cydia latiferreana (Walsingham) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), is a key insect pest associated with hazelnuts, Corylus avellana L. (Fagales: Betulaceae), in North America. This study investigated the feasibility of entomopathogenic nematodes as an alternative strategy for filbertworm control. Laboratory and field experiments were conducted between October 2007 and May 2008 in Benton C...
متن کاملInstar Susceptibility of Simulium vittatum (Diptera: Simuliidae) to the Entomogenous Nematode Neoaplectana carpocapsae.
Laboratory bioassays showed that the susceptibility of Simulium vittatum to Neoaplectana carpocapsae increased with successive larval instars. First, second, and third instar larvae were resistant to infection, while seventh instars were highly susceptible. Significant differences in intra-instar susceptibility were also evident, as mortality ranged from 58% for the smallest seventh instar larv...

Dalotia coriaria (Kraatz) (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) and entomopathogenic nematodes (Rhabditida: Heterorhabditidae and Steinernematidae) are two soil-dwelling biological control agents used to manage western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and fungus gnats Bradysis spp. (Diptera: Sciaridae) in glasshouses. Growers often use multiple natural enemie...
